Liberty Safe: Built in the U.S.A

  • 2 min read

Liberty is America’s #1 manufacturer of heavy-duty home, commercial and gun safes. All our full-sized safes are built in our very own state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Payson, Utah. We are so committed to made-in-America standards that we invested $10 million to bring the manufacturing of our entry-level safes back to the United States.

The Biggest Safe Manufacturer in the Country

Our facility is the largest safe manufacturing plant in the United States with over 300,000 square feet of production and distribution space. We have the capability of producing 450 safes a day, which is a long way from our company’s humble beginnings over 30 years ago.

We were building just six safes a day inside three rented storage units in 1988. Since the beginning of our company, we have sold more than two million safes, so we must be doing something right! We also employ more than 300 workers at our facility.

State-of-the-Art Technology

One of the main reasons why Liberty has been so successful with building great safes is our state-of-the art manufacturing processes. But we are not content to rest our laurels. We are always looking for new innovations to keep improving our processes in building the most reliable safes in the business.

We do things that other manufacturers do not do…including:

  • Roll form metal fabrication. Our full sized safes are fabricated from thick steel that is fed into our state-of-the-art computerized roll-form machine. During the roll form process, the single piece body of each gun safe is precision bent as it passes through 6 different stations before being folded into its final shape.
  • Robotic welding. While the front-corners of the safe are automatically jig-welded, its back is sealed by high temperature robotic welders. Our precision robotic welders create stronger, cleaner and deeper welds then regular welders can. The result is stronger edges and less grinding that can create weak spots in the weld.
  • Powder coat painting. Before being powder coated, each safe receives a final sanding for a super smooth surface. Each safe goes through an acid-etch phosphorus wash that removes all oils and loose particles to ensure that powder primers and paint finishes adhere and seal properly. During the painting process, the powder coat primers and paint are electrically charged to the safe. This process removes 95% of dangerous VOCs and is the most environmentally safe system in our industry. Once painted, the gun safe surface will be sealed by heating it in a 375 degree oven for 30 minutes.
